Late Summer Aurora Viewing
Let yourself be impressed by the mysterious spectacle of the Northern Lights. With a bit of luck, you can experience them from mid-August on clear, dark nights. Experience the Northern Lights on a walk along the lake shore or from the deck of your cabin.
Guided ATV Tour
2 hour ATV tour in the beautiful nature around the resort. Trails through the forest and over wide open areas. In good weather you can see far into the Coast Mountains to Alaska. Three modern double seaters available. Come with us and enjoy this breathtaking adventure.
Hiking
The rolling hills and the extensive trail system around the resort are ideal for leisurely walks and strolls. Venture out on your own and discover the wonders of the boreal forest, or join us on a guided tour up and above the treeline. Fantastic views over Windy Arm and Tagish Lake await you.
Canoe & Kayak
Traveling through the Yukon, you have passed many lakes, large and small. You may have imagined how it would feel, to paddle along the shore of one. Well, here is where you can do it! Southern Lakes Resort offers a small fleet of canoes and kayaks for rent to both registered guests and day visitors. Daily rent includes brief instruction, paddles, PFD’s.
Boat Sightseeing and Fishing Tours
Book a fishing charter with our knowledgeable guide and discover why Tagish Lake has been famous for its fishing grounds for many centuries. The nutrient rich cold water is extremely pure and an excellent habitat for Lake Trout, Arctic Grayling, Lake Whitefish and in some spots Northern Pike. Most fishing is done by trolling, and we practice „catch&release“ during our fishing trips. Unless of course, you wish to grill your fish on the beach for lunch! Fishing licenses are sold at the Resort.
Bring your Bike or ATV
A widely branched trail system starts right at the resort. Our guests can bring their mountain bikes or ATV’s and roam the beautiful forests and even drive some of the surrounding mountains.
Trips with your own Vehicle
The location of the Southern Lakes Resort is ideal for day trips with your own vehicle:
Drive to Carcross to see the tourist attractions and exhibitions on the gold rush and the smallest desert in the world.
140km on one of the most beautifully situated roads to Atlin in British Columbia. A magical place in impressive nature.
To Skagway (Alaska) over the Coast Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy the breathtaking views along the entire route and the day in the unique Skagway.
Aurora Viewing
Lean back, put your feet up and take position in front of the large panoramic windows of your cabin. Let the Northern Lights unfold right before your eyes.
Dogsledding
All aboard, the dogteam has pulled up! How amazing would it be, to hop on the dogsled right in front of your cabin? Well, it’s actually true – our mushers live right next door and their happy and well-trained dogs can’t wait to take you on a tour! You’ll be treated to one of the best dogsledding experience the Yukon has to offer – with professional musher and multiple Iditarod and Yukon Quest finisher Michelle Philllips, and her partner Ed Hopkins who has finished the Yukon Quest in the top 3! Both of them and their team of guides are keen to introduce you into their passion of breeding, raising and racing dogs!

Snowshoeing and Skiing
Follow the fresh tracks of a lynx through the boreal forest, hear the harsh snow crunch under your snowshoes and climb a hill to enjoy fantastic views over the vast frozen landscape! A slow and peaceful activity, snowshoeing brings you up close with life in the far north, walking through the bush as the pioneers did more than 100 years ago. Learn about plants and animals and how they survive the deep winter up here.
Snowmobiling
Fast paced and fun, snowmobiling is a great way to get around and to see more of the Yukon’s winter scenery unfolding right at your doorstep. From Dec 1st we provide 2-hour trips, where everyone drives their own machine. As with all our activities, no prior experience is needed in order to enjoy snowmobiling. Tours are adapted to our guests abilities and comfort. Passengers are possible as well.
